Hotel was located right at a tram stop that was just 6 stops from the Amsterdam Centraal train station and 4 stops from Dam square where transfers to other trains were easy. If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper

My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.

Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
